DC Shutter Bug
Hello and thank you for visiting my photography website.
My name is Doug Currie, my wife Kathy and I have lived on Vancouver Island, British Columbia since 2015 in the beautiful small town of Ladysmith.
My passion is landscape and wildlife photography, and thanks to our travels I am proud to share some of my favourite photos from most of the places we’ve explored in our travels.
What’s with the website name? I belong to a WhatsApp group called The Wandering Shutter Bugs! We are a small group of photography enthusiasts who periodically gather for local photo shoots in greater Vancouver. I chose DC Shutter Bug as my moniker for that group and it kind of stuck. I am also a member of CAPA, as well as the Ladysmith Camera Club.
I am constantly learning as much as I can in digital photography and post editing. I have completed several courses covering composition, long exposure, digital photo restoration and landscape photo techniques. I’ve also completed several training courses in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop so as to take camera raw photos through to post editing and capture the feeling and mood experienced in making the photograph.
My current camera of choice is the Sony A7ii.
I started my journey with an Olympus OM1, an SLR completely manual 35mm camera purchased in 1978, where I learned the basics of film exposure and techniques. I knew then that this was going to be a lifelong passion, and soon developed a bad case of GAS (...Gear Acquisition Syndrome!). My first digital camera was a Canon PowerShot, a 10 megapixel with fixed lens. One of my most prized possessions however, is a Minox-B, an analogue high-quality subminiature camera that's small enough to fit in the palm of a hand. I moved on to Sony products, starting with a Sony NEX-7 in 2012, and now with the A7ii.
My most recent gear acquisitions have been the addition of the Panasonic Lumix DC-ZS200D, a small pocket size 'point and shoot' camera. As well as the DJI Mini 3 Pro camera drone which adds even more potential in photography and video options. Of course, there are many accessories available for drones...(see GAS above!).
I love the fact that I'm located right where some of the best and most scenic locations are to be found. I've only scratched the surface of these places, and can't wait to do more exploring with my cameras.
Please return periodically to see what I’ve been up to photographically! …off to the next photo shoot!
