Cowichan Hospice Society Photographic & Art Competition - March 26, 2021 A photo competition for work installed in the recently completed, Cowichan Hospice House on Cairnsmore Street in Duncan. Checkwitch Poiron architectural firm has created a truly remarkable space for our community and it was time to add some art to its walls. (https://www.cparch.ca/cowichan-hospice-house). Competition 2 (180 panoramic view of the Cowichan River) was awarded to Doug Currie for "Nature Full Force" as were all three Competition 3 pieces (old growth forests) "Let there be Light", "Old Fallen Tree" and "Reaching". All were reproduced on plex and coated with matt laminate. And now are on the walls of the house. Two additional pieces were selected, one each by Doug Currie (Catch the Sun) and Martha Aguero (Arbutus by the Sea) and were reproduced on acrylic plexiglas for the last of the hallways. "The selected pieces have been printed and are on the walls of the House, to the delight of patients, their families and staff. These scenes from around our region beckon, they feel familiar and yet intriguing. All offer the possibility of a healing connection with nature- so important at Cowichan Hospice House" - Gretchen Hartley, Executive Director
